Last verified: 1 October 2026. Do you live abroad and are you preparing to bring a vehicle into Morocco? Start by telling apart a temporary stay, a definitive customs clearance and a request for a special benefit. Being an MRE (Moroccan residing abroad) is not enough to make all these procedures equivalent.

Choose the path that matches your project
To come with a foreign-registered vehicle and then re-export it, see our guide to temporary admission: 180 days, CPI and power of attorney. To keep the vehicle in Morocco, prepare a customs-clearance file and check its admissibility and its registration separately. The temporary regime is not, on its own, an authorisation to keep the vehicle indefinitely.
If you are preparing a permanent return, our guide to return and ageing explains the supporting documents and the distinction between the vehicle’s administrative age and the valuation benefit. If you are at least 60 years old, the guide to the 90% reduction presents the scope of the scheme and the limits to have confirmed. These paths may raise questions of interaction: do not combine the benefits yourself.
The three questions to settle before buying
- Can the vehicle follow your path? Check its category, its real age and the registration conditions. A customs authorisation and a homologation do not designate the same decision.
- Which regime matches your situation? Prepare your proof of residence, of ownership, of return and, if necessary, of activity abroad. A regime label in a simulator does not prove your eligibility.
- Which official value concerns your vehicle? Use the MCV guide to identify the exact type and keep the official taxable value. The sale price alone does not allow a conclusion.
How to read the age limits
The MARHABA 2026 circular recalls, within its scope, the customs clearance of vehicles under five years old (rule, exceptions and age calculation). It also describes a specific possibility for certain vehicles of ten years or less, of the passenger-car body type (conduite intérieure) and with at most nine seats, under the conditions provided for retired MRE owners or those making a permanent return. This exception is not a right open to all MRE or to all vehicles. Source: circular 6741/311 of 5 June 2026, II.2 “Important”.
Have the administrative date used to measure age and the applicable supporting documents confirmed before choosing a vehicle close to a limit. AutoDouane does not issue an automatic “eligible” result based on the year of manufacture alone. The conditions for transport and registration must also be checked with the competent body.
Prepare a consistent file
Gather your identity document, the relevant residence documents, the registration certificate, proof of ownership and the customs documents already issued. For a permanent return, add the documents specific to that path. For a car that belongs to a third party, check the power-of-attorney conditions; they differ depending on the operation. Our AT guide details the temporary case, whereas the request for the 90% reduction requires a personal appearance.
Note the important dates in a single file: first circulation, entry of the vehicle, AT deadline, CPI validity, permanent return and MCV consultation. A missing date can change the analysis. Keep the administrative confirmations with the documents; do not replace an answer concerning your vehicle with an example found for another model.
Preparing the budget without promising a total
The AutoDouane tool (FR) adds up your known costs and offers a preparation mode based on an ADII / MCV taxable value you have already obtained. No MRE benefit, preferential tariff or final amount is deduced automatically; the exact amount is read in the official ADII MCV (AutoDouane is an independent service and is not affiliated with ADII). An UNKNOWN item means it remains unknown, not that it is free. Ask for the applicable official amounts before committing to a purchase or a transport.
Sources, exceptions and limits
To report a changed source or an error on this path, see our contact page (FR). Do not send identity documents or a VIN in a simple request to correct the site.
This path relies on ADII circular 6741/311 MARHABA 2026, notably II.1 to II.3 and II.5, and the official MCV service. The detailed guides specify their exceptions. Commercial, utility or specially adapted vehicles may fall under separate provisions; a rule for a passenger car is not automatically applicable to them. This page organises your preparation and is not a customs decision.
